[VIRTUAL] Introduction to AI: Understanding the Basics
Artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded in tools nonprofit professionals already use. This session provides a practical introduction to what AI is, how it functions at a basic level, and where it may support nonprofit operations such as communication, research, data organization, and administrative tasks. Participants will explore realistic benefits and common misconceptions, along with introductory ethical and risk considerations. This course is designed to build awareness and confidence so participants can engage in informed conversations about AI within their organizations.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define artificial intelligence using practical, non-technical language.
- Identify at least three ways AI tools may be used in nonprofit settings.
- Distinguish between AI as an assistive tool and human decision-making responsibility.
- Recognize basic ethical considerations, including accuracy and data sensitivity.
- Describe one potential opportunity and one potential risk of AI adoption.
