[TULSA] Federal Grant Compliance for Nonprofits

The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits is proud to host Federal Grant Compliance for Nonprofits, presented by Peters & Chandler, P.C. This half-day course walks nonprofit staff through the full grant management lifecycle, from award to audit. Participants will learn how to interpret grant agreements and federal guidelines, distinguish subrecipient from contractor relationships, and apply best practices for administration, including internal controls, board oversight, and expenditure tracking. The session also covers federal and state reporting requirements and what it takes to prepare for a financial statement or single audit.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the grant lifecycle from application through reporting and audit.
- Interpret grant agreements and key award requirements.

Identify allowable costs, compliance requirements, and common grant risks.
- Apply grant administration best practices, including policies, internal controls, and board oversight.
- Understand expense tracking concepts and the information needed to meet federal reporting and audit requirements, including building an accurate Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA).
- Prepare for and distinguish between financial statement audits and single audits.

Melanie is a CPA with nine years of experience providing assurance services, with a primary focus on nonprofit organizations. She specializes in nonprofit audits and single audits, helping organizations navigate financial reporting and compliance requirements with clarity and confidence.
Melanie is a 2016 graduate of Oklahoma State University and a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants. She has completed the AICPA Not-for-Profit Certificate Program I. In 2019, she was recognized as an OSCPA Trailblazer for her dedication and contributions to the accounting profession.
Outside of her professional work, Melanie volunteers with the YMCA youth soccer program.

Tiarra has five years of experience providing assurance services to both nonprofit organizations and for-profit entities, with a particular specialization in Single Audits. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 2021 and completed her MBA at Mid-America Christian University in 2024. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants. In recognition of her outstanding performance on the CPA Exam, she received the OSCPA Silver Medal Award for achieving the highest score during the first two testing windows of 2024. Beyond her work in public accounting, Tiarra serves as an Adjunct Professor of Auditing at Oklahoma City University and as a Subject Matter Expert for the university’s online accounting program, where she designs curriculum, develops instructional materials, and helps prepare future accounting professionals. |
